In spite of issuing clarifications by Reserve Bank of India and Government Ministers, in unambiguous words, a ten rupee coin is not accepted in Bengaluru and some other parts of Karnataka.
A few months back rumour of Government withdrawing Rs 10 coin, was rife across the nation. Small traders have stopped accepting the coin, even when the banks were accepting them. The confusion prevailing in the market, however, was soon cleared by RBI. Similar was the case with currency note of Rs 20 denomination. However, this too was clarified in a short period.
Even in the high profile area of Bengaluru, those visiting from outside, face problems as Rs 10 coin is not accepted. The confusion relates only to the coin of single denomination of Rs 10. Other coins are exchanged easily by all.
Even banks have not been able to remove the confusion or misconception prevailing among the people. If this is the situation in capital city of Karnataka, what could be the condition in smaller places in the state, can only be imagined.
