Nagpur Municipal Corporation has made arrangements for immersion of Ganesh idols in artificial tanks in all the zones. In all 248 artificial tanks have been provided, near natural water bodies. The NMC authorities have banned immersion of idols in these natural water bodies.
On September 19 large number of idols will be immersed. NMC has dug artificial tanks and tanks made of cement concrete. Besides the artificial tanks, separate bins have also been placed for the flowers and other material (Nirmalya). Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari and Standing Committee Chief Prakash Bhoyar reviewed the arrangements on Friday.
The natural water bodies are being protected by the NMC. The boundaries of major water bodies have been covered using tin sheets. The NMC authorities have appealed to the people to co-operate in their efforts to prevent pollution of water.
