The foundation day of National Service Scheme (NSS) was celebrated with enthusiasm by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, at its Convocation Hall, here on Friday. Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari was in the chair. Pro-VC Dr Sanjay Dudhe, former RTMNU NSS Director Dr Bhau Daydar, NSS Director Dr Sopandev Pise were the guests of honour.
NSS was introduced in the year 1969 By Government of India, through its Youth and Sports Directorate. The programme started with 1,000 student volunteers from ten colleges, has spread its wings to cover 242 colleges having 26,800 students and 335 Programme Officers.
Dr Chaudhari said that Nation comes first and can be built only through social bindings. NSS volunteers have been extending this service relentlessly. He also assured all kind of support to the activities of NSS.
Dr Bhau Daydar said that NSS generates positive energy among the students. They get exposure to realities of life, which help them undersand the needs of the society and work for them.
Dr Dudhe also expressed his views.
