Senior Citizens Day will be celebrated in the city on October 1.
Jyeshtha Nagarik Pratishthan has organised a gathering of senior citizens at residence of former MP Datta Meghe, in Pande Layout, at 5 pm on October 1, the Senior Citizens Day. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will be the chief guest. Datta Meghe will preside over.
The programme is organised to discuss issues of senior citizens and also to extend help to some social organisations, informs Secretary Dr Raju Mishra. The beneficiaries include Matoshri Vruddhashram, Adasa; Panchawati Vruddhashram of Matru Sewa Sangh; Dynanjyoti Andha Vidyalaya, Hingna; Sai Ashram, MIDC; Vimalashram Gharkul, Nagpur.
Former legislators Girish Gandhi, Anil Sole, Ashok Mankar, Sudhakar Kohale, ex-Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Baburao Tidke will be the guests of honour.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation is organising health check-up camp in all ten zones for the senior citizens. The camps will be held at Aant Jagnade Samajbhavan, Behind Dhawad Polytechnic, Rajiv Nagar, Somalwada; Galli No. 3, Near NMC School, Amravati Road; Shivaji Colony, Near Nasre Sabhagruha, Hudkeshwar; Manavta High School, Babulkheda, Dhantoli; Nandanvan Darshan Colony, Near Gajanan Mandir; Rajkumar Gupta Samaj Bhavan, Nannumal Building, Bajeria; Near TB Hospital, Golibar Chowk; Subhash Mandir, Pardi Maharani Laxmibai School; Nagri Primarty Centre Urban PHC, Shende Nagar, near Shanti Vidya Temple, and near Bezonbag Ground, Bezonbag.

Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Devendra Fadnavis and Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari will honour the senior citizens.
Apli Bus: The city bus transport has offered free services to Senior Citizens on Friday. Through Apli Bus, they will be taken across the city’s prominent places.
The buses will ply from all ten zones from 12 noon. They will be taken to Deekshabhoomi, Swami Vivekanand memorial, Central Museum, Zero Mile Freedom Park and other prominent places.
