A team of forestmen arrested seven accused and seized body parts of tigers from them on Sunday at Toll Naka, Haladgaon, on Nagpur-Wardha Highway .
On a tip-off that some poachers are making a deal at Nagpur for selling tiger body parts, forest department, Nagpur, deployed a team of forestmen that laid a trap at the Toll Naka and pounced on the accused when their Chevrolet Tavera (MH-44-B-5152) stopped that that place. Forestmen also seized the body parts and the vehicles. The accused are from Yavatmal, Wardha and Amravati districts.
Dr Bharat Singh Hada, Depty Conservator of Forest, Nagpur, informed that these accused had poached a tiger in Umarda jungle and distributed body parts among them. They contacted a customer out of greed so that they could get money by selling the parts. Forestmen area interrogating them to know their connection in the earlier tiger poaching cases.
Forestmen have registered an offence under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. They are making further investigation in the case. P G Kodape, DFO, N G Chandewar, ACF, Sandip Giri, ACF, L V Thokal, RFO, Butibori, Maruti Munde, Mahadeo Munde and others conducted the raid successfully under the guidance of P Kalyankumar, Chief Conservator of Forest, Nagpur, and Dr Hada.
