Water tanks are being constructed under ‘Amrut’ yojna in order to fulfil the concept of tanker-free Nagpur. The residents from South Nagpur are facing water supply problems but the construction of new water tanks would solve their problem and provide them relief, said Nitin Gadkari, Union Surface Transport Minister.
He was speaking after performing the bhoomipujan for three water tanks at Indira Gandhi Hall Ground, Aashirvad Nagar, Bidipeth, on Friday. The water tanks are to be constructed at Bidipeth, Motha Tajbag and Vanjari Nagar-Sakkardara.
Dr Vikas Mahatme, MP, Dayashankar Tiwari, Mayor, Mohan Mate, MLA, Prakash Bhoyar, Chairman, Standing Committee, Avinath Thakre, Ruling Party Leader in NMC, Rajendra Sonkusre, Chairman, Civil Works Committee, Divya Dhurde, Chairperson, Woman & Child Welfare Committee, Snehal Bihare, Nehru Nagar Zone Chairperson, Kalpana Kumbhare, Chairperson, Vijay (Pintu) Zhalke, Nagesh Sahare, Rita Mule, Bhagwan Mendhe and Mangla Khekre, all Corporators were the guests of honour.
Gadkari further said that the participation of the citizens in the developmental works in the city was very important. There is no problem of water in the city but because of obstacles in water supply, the authorities were constructing water tanks in order to make the required water supply to the residents. He congratulated Mohan Mate, Dayashankar Tiwari and Vijay (Pintu) Zhalke on chasing the demand for the construction of three water tanks.
Nagpur city has got Rs 80,000 crore for its development till today through which works of electricity, water, education, health facilities etc are being done and some are proposed to be done.
In his address, Tiwari thanks Gadkari for making efforts to get permission from Centre/State Governments in clearing the difficulties.
Mate said that it has been proposed to construct 43 water tanks in ‘Amrut’ yojuna in the city, including six in South Nagpur.
Abhijit Mule conducted the function while Snehal Bihare proposed a vote of thanks. Swati Aakhatkar, Bharti Bunde, Rupali Thakur, Madhuri Thakre, Deven Dasture, Parshu Thakur, Ramesh Chopde, Nita Thakre, Jyoti Deoghare, Pyare Khan, Manoj Talewar, Rajesh Duphare and others were present.
