Now, Aasif Sheikh adds yet another feather to his cap by bagging the World Book of Records for his matchless contribution in the field of film, stage and television through the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA).
Having started his acting career in 1984-85, Aasif has worked across several Bollywood and television projects, making him one of the most recognized faces and outstanding performers on Indian television.
On being bestowed with the World Book of Records, an ecstatic Aasif Sheikh alias Vibhuti Narayan Mishra shares, I am honoured and elated with this recognition, and it means a lot. I have come a long way in the entertainment industry. I am grateful to everyone for being a part of this wonderful journey – all my co-actors, producers and directors, technical and creative teams, support staff and most importantly, my viewers, my fans. I started my theatre career, did a few Bollywood projects, and then moved on to television. I owe a lot to television, which has indeed brought me fame and recognition, making me a household name.
Speaking about the popularity of Vibuti’s character in TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, It is wonderful to know that Vibhuti’s character has struck a chord with the audience, especially for his various getups apart from his comic timing. I have essayed over 300 characters in Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, which in itself is exceptional and a record of sorts. Acting for me has been about living in the shoes of another person and understanding life from their perspective. There has been tremendous learning and growth for me as most of these roles have been completely different from each other.
Let us take, for example, the character of Baba Kabootar and the Italian Don Vito Paparazzi and many such roles. These had a different look and getups and distinctive character attributes, expressions, dialogues, and much more.
Getting that one look right takes weeks of discussion and research for the entire team. And then there is the main character of Vibhuti. Very rarely, one gets so much variety in a single character in the same show! It is an opportunity of a lifetime. No doubt it is challenging. But I do feel blessed, and I have thoroughly enjoyed each of these characters.
One of the most satisfying feelings is when your work is paid off and appreciated. This recognition serves as great motivation and incentive to continue doing what I love doing the most, which is acting.
