Nagpur Municipal Corporation has been granted permission to start CSIR Sickle Cell Research Centre. The permission has been granted by Cellular and Molecular Biology Centre of Government of India.
City Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari along with Nodal officer Dr Dipti Jain inspected the place at Panchpaoli Maternity Home. The Research Centre will work under the supervision of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). NMC Health Officer Dr Sanjay Chilkar, Additional Health Officer Dr Vijay Joshi, Vice-president of Maharashtra Medial Council Dr Vinky Rughwani, Ashinagar Zonal Health Officer Dr Dipankar Bhivgade, Incharge of the Maternity Home Dr Sangeeta Khandait were present.
NMC and SMMI Welfare Charitable trust will jointly operate the Research Centre. The Centre was being operated at Government Medical College for the last three years. Following expiry of the agreed term, efforts were made to retain the Centre in Nagpur itself.
MP Dr Vikas Mahatme and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari helped to retain the Centre in Nagpur, Tiwari stated and thanked them.
