Five nominations were received in Nagpur, for the ensuing biennial elections of Maharashtra legislative Council. November 23 was the last day for filing nominations.
Although Indian National Congress has ann9unced Dr Ravindra Bhoyar as its official candidate, Prafulla Gudadhe Patil of the same party has also filed nomination papers. The contest is mainly between the Congress candidate and Bharatioya Janata Party candidate Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Bawankule is former minister and is considered a strong candidate for the elections.
Dr Bhoyar, who is also from RSS cadre and BJP leader, joined Congress on Monday and filed nomination papers on Tuesday. Gudadhe Patil’s papers have been filed as dummy candidate.
Two independent candidates Mangesh Deshmukh and Suresh Daulatrao Rewatkar have also filed nomination papers.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on Wednesday and the last date of withdrawal of nominations is November 26.
Polling will be held on December 10, between 8 am and 4 pm and counting on December 14.
