Dr. Atul Vaidya has taken over as Director of the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI). He has assumed charge on November 29, Before becoming Director, Dr. Vaidya was Chief Scientist and Head of Chemical and Hazardous Waste Management Division, CSIR-NEERI. He did B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT), Nagpur and M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from IIT-Bombay. He obtained Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from RTM Nagpur University.
He has a vast experience in all fields of environmental science and engineering, especially in solid and hazardous waste management. Dr. Vaidya had extensively been involved in quantification and characterization of solid and hazardous wastes; designing of secure landfills; eco-toxicological studies on landfill leachates; designing of municipal solid waste transportation system; recycling and reuse of municipal solid waste management; and monitoring of green house gas (GHG) emissions from landfills.
He has implemented effective technological options for environmentally sound management of hazardous wastes at various industries in the country. He has published many research papers in national and
international Journals.
Dr. Vaidya has taken charge from Dr. S. Chandrasekhar, who was earlier holding additional charge of Director, CSIR-NEERI.
