Commandant and all Ranks of Guards Regimental Centre, Kamptee laid wreath and paid respect to India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and previous Honorary Colonel of the Brigade of the Guards, General Bipin Rawat and other brave souls of motherland today.
CDS General Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat, his Defence Adviser Brig Lakhbinder Singh Lidder, Staff Officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh and nine other Armed Forces personnel including the Air Force helicopter crew died in a helicopter (IAF Mi-17V5) crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. General Bipin Rawat received PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC honors.

While Group Captain Varun Singh is on life support in the Military Hospital at Wellington and all efforts are being made to save his life.
The mortal remains of General Rawat and his wife Madhulika will be taken to their official residence on 3, Kamaraj Marg at 11 am on Friday. Around 2 pm, the military bands of all three services will escort the bodies to Brar crematorium in Dhaula Kuan. The funeral is scheduled for 4 pm. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had announced in the parliament today that the CDS will be cremated with full military honour.
