A tigress (T41) was found with snare in her neck during checking of photographs from camera trap placed in Maikepar beat of Nagalwdi range of Pench Tiger Reserve on Wednesday.
The agriculture area is approximately one km away from the camera trap location. Analysing the past camera trap records, it was found to be traversing West Pench, Saleghat and Nagalwadi range of West Pench.
Dr Prabhu Nath Shukla, Deputy Director, Pench Tiger Reserve, said while talking to The Live Nagpur on Thursday that the Forest Department had deployed more camera traps for searching the big cat. Moreover, nine patrolling teams have been formed to track it. Villagers are being informed to remain alert and not to venture into jungle, he pointed out.
Besides, a whatsapp group consisting of Sarpanchs, Presidents of Eco-Development Committees, Police Patils of villages coming in its proximate frequenting area is being created to get tigress’ location, if found in village area, cautioning villagers and dispel rumours. The patrolling teams are also searching snares in agricultural fields and forest boundaries. The adjoining territorial Nagpur Forest Department has also been alerted for the same, added Dr Shukla.
