On Friday night, a SPECIAL SQUAD of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 3 Gajanan Rajmane seized over Rs 4.20 crore cash from a businessman’s house in Kotwali area, believed to be hawala money.
Rajmane’s team raided the home of one Nehal Suresh Wadaliya in Kumbharpura, Kotwali, and discovered the large sum of money. In addition to Wadaliya (38), the squad also detained Vardhman Vilasbhai Pacchikar (45) and Shivkumar Harishchand Diwaniwal (52), both residents of Gondia.
The alleged hawala ring came to light after Rajmane got infor mation that the Wadaliya Pacchikar and Diwanilal were sendinghuge cash to some per sons in Gujarat.
Similarly, the informer informed police that hawala racketeers’ cash had been dumped in the house. Rajmane went to the house after the squad raided it. In the presence of ACP Surve, Senior PI Mukund Thakre, PI Arvind Pawar, API Sandip Bagul, API Deepak Wankhede, and others counted the cash.
A currency counting machine was also seized by police.
When contacted, Rajmane said that preliminary investigations revealed that some cash was to be allegedly dispatched by the suspects to some hawala racketeers. “However, he said, “Nothing can be said at the moment as the probe is under way.”
Another senior police official stated that the Income Tax Department would be notified only after the police investigation was completed.
