“Break the rules†is the tip for the students. The teaching by former Dean of J J School of Fine Arts, Mumbai appears shocking for many. But Dr Sanjay Pande says that unless the rules are broker, creativity in the artist cannot groom.
It is true that the rules are made to discipline human behavior and must be followed for a major part of life. But this does not apply for an artist.
Dr Pande is a post-graduate in Fine Arts from Nagpur University. He carried out his doctoral research in the field of Applied Art, where creative and innovative thinking is the key to success. He was the first to earn a PhD in Applied Art in India. Following entry into the government college he worked at Nagpur, Aruangabad and Mumbai.
Dr Pande did not speak about emotional sufferings he experienced in his life. However, excellence in work of any artist is essentially connected to emotions, his/her own experience or keen observation of emotional expressions of others.
Presentation of these emotionally in an innovative manner makes the artist different from others. Making caricatures of prominent personalities is his passion. Many of them have been used by newspapers and magazines like Times of India and Illustrated weekly.
Following retirement from J J School he was offered a job by D Y Patil (Deemed to be) University. He worked there for a couple of years and left to follow his passion as an artist.
Dr Pande, a silent marcher in the field of creative art, is a Guru for artists creating innovative advertisements of various products. Settled in Pune after retirement, he has close association with many in Nagpur. He was in Nagpur for a very short visit.
