The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have named Faf du Plessis, a South African international player, as the team’s captain for the IPL 2022 season. Du Plessis will succeed Virat Kohli, the team’s most famous player, who stepped down at the end of last season.
Since joining CSK in 2012, Du Plessis has been a key component of the ‘Yellow Brigade,’ winning two IPL titles. With a strike rate of 132, the South African batter amassed 2932 runs in 93 innings.
“First and foremost the most important news is that Faf is going to be the captain of RCB and I couldn’t be happier to pass on the baton to a good friend, someone that I have known well over the years,†Kohli said in a video uploaded on RCB’s Twitter page.
For the 2018 season of the IPL, RCB has also signed Harshal Patel, David Willey, Finn Allen, Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dinesh Kartik, and Siddharth Kaul. The club will play Punjab Kings in its debut IPL match on March 27 at the Dr. D.Y Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
