Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has not yet submitted a plan of its centenary celebrations, to the State Government.
The issue came to light, when legislator Abhijit Wanjari demanded Rs 100 crore for the University, as it is completing 100 years of its existence. RTM Nagpur University is one of the oldest universities in the country and holds a glorious history.
The University had awarded D Lit to Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, had admitted former Prime Minister Narsimha Rao and others from Andhra Pradesh after they were rusticated from their university for participating in the freedom movement.
The University has produced dignitaries like former Vice-President Justice Hidayatullah, former Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde, former Supreme Court judge Justice Vikas Sirpurkar, present Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, ex-Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and others.
Minister of State for Finance Shambhuraje Desai informed that the Government has not received any proposal or plan from the University.
