In a pageant held in Puerto Rico, Poland’s Karoline Bielawska was crowned Miss World 2021, while India’s Manasa Varanasi failed to make the top six. She came in eleventh place out of the top thirteen contenders. Toni-Ann Singh, the departing queen of Miss World 2019, crowned Karolina Bielawska the winner.
Indian-American In the beauty competition held at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, Shree Saini of the United States came in second place. Olivia Yace of Cote d’Ivoire came in second as the second runner-up.
Manasa Varanasi’s top 13 finish comes over three months after India’s Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe 2021, 21 years after India won the title.
Manasa Varanasi was born in Hyderabad but moved to Malaysia at an early age because of her father’s job. She attended Global Indian International School and completed grade 10 there. She later returned to India to study computer science at Hyderabad’s Vasavi College of Engineering.
In 2020, she won the Femina Miss India where she represented the state of Telangana. She was also crowned as Femina Miss India World 2020.
The 70th edition of the beauty pageant, took place over the course of 40 days in December. The pageant drew over 90 candidates from around the world, however the conclusion was postponed due to an outbreak of Covid among the workers and even the finalists. In December, Manasi Varanasi was one of the contestants who tested positive for Covid.
Miss World 1986 Giselle Laronde, CEO of the Miss World Organization Julia Morley, and British novelist, pundit, and author Patrick Robinson were among the jury members for this year’s Miss World.
