Agriculture produce Marketing Committee, Pune has detected different Alphonso mango being marketed in the name of popular Ratnagiri or Deogad Alphonso.
Alphonso mango from Ratnagiri and Deogad are very popular and costly. Similarly Alphonso mango is also produced in Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala. The produced in the southern states is higher compared to that in Ratnagiri and Deogad or other regions in Konkan area of Maharashtra.
APMC has found that in the name of the popular mango variety mango in large number coming from South is being sold.
APMC experts have informed that the mangoes from Konkan and South are slightly different in shape, skin of Konkan mango is thin, while those coming from South is thick. The colour is also different, when cut and the taste is also different. The mango from the South is slightly sour, while those from Konkan is very sweet. The price for mango from the South is also low.
APMC authorities have stated that complaint against those fake trading in Alphonso will be lodged.
Alphonso has a great demand from across the world and is packed and exported very carefully.
