Various competitions and awareness programmes are being organised in the city to mark celebrations of the Nutrition Fortnight from March 21 to April 4.
The fortnight is being celebrated at the directives by the Woman and Child Development Ministry, Government of India given all over the nation. Accordingly, a meeting of the Monitoring and Review Committee under the presidentship of Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner, who appealed to make the campaign successful.
A Healthy Baby Competition will be held at various places in the first week while events on gender sensitive water management as decided by the government for creating awareness will be organised in the second week. The main objective of the campaign is to create awareness about use of local and traditional diet for keeping sound health of women and children from tribal areas as well as anemia prohibition and management.
Moreover, special camps would also be held in cooperation with Health Department, Social Welfare Department if NMC, zonal offices, balwadis, nursery schools, Child Development Project Officer, civic projects, voluntary organisations, Lions Club, Rotary Club, private hospitals, Self-Help Groups, youth groups etc within the municipal corporation limits. The volunteers will measure height and record weight of children and feed the information in a nutrition tracker app. NMC will guide parents of kids about this if measurement/weight is not taken.
