The government machinery should prepare an action plan for short and long term measures to check pollution in Vainganga river and submit it immediately, in the background of directives given by Aditya Thackeray, Environment Minister, said Prajakta Lawangare-Verma, Divisional Commissioner.
She was addressing a review meeting held in the Commissionerate here on Tuesday. R Vimla, District Collector, Sandip Kadam, Collector from Bhandara, Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner, Yogesh Kumbhejkar, CEO, Nagpur ZP, Vinay Moon, CEO, Bhandara ZP, Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi, Chairman, NIT, Ashok Kare, Regional Manager of MPCB, Anand Katole, Dy Regional Manager, officials from Bhandara Nagar Parishad, Water Resources Department and other concerned departments were present.
Lawangare-Verma further said that the waste water from Nagpur district was released in Nag, Pili and Kanhan rivers. This contaminated water plus waste water from Bhandara district ultimately mix up with water in Vainganga river. Therefore, it is necessary for all the concerned local self-bodies to undertake treatment of water and hence they should submit the measures to arrest pollution in Vainganga river, she added.
The meeting took review of activities of six Nagar Parishads in Nagpur district and made planning for measures on short and long terms, Accordingly, action is being taken, informed R Vimla. Kadam also gave information about measures being taken in Bhandara district. Radhakrishnan also gave information about steps being taken in Nagpur.
