The Nagpur police sprung into action on March 26 as the IPL cricket matches began, keeping an eye on the activities of cricket bookies. On Sunday, DCP Detection Chinmay Pandit questioned and warned a total of 12 cricket bookmakers.
Similarly, authorities raided the offices of 20 history-sheeter cricket bookmakers. According to sources, DCP Pandit told bookies that if they were caught accepting bets on cricket events, they would face serious consequences.
During the T20 World Cup 2021, many cricket bookies were discovered operating their illicit cricket betting rackets from Akola, Goa, and Mumbai. Last year, authorities searched more than 19 locations of history-sheeter cricket bookies. This year, the cops are also preparing a similar operation.
Officials from the Crime Branch were requested to keep a watch on the actions of these infamous bookies. During last year’s tournaments, three well-known cricket bookies, PankajKadi, Sonu, and Bunty, were discovered operating out of Akola.
The Akola police was also alerted by the Nagpur police about possible locations of the cricket bookies. DCP Pandit said that the illegal business would not be allowed to flourish in Nagpur city. Such business will be dealt with an iron hand, he said.
