Grahak Panchayat, Maharashtra, has emailed memoranda to The State Government and Education Director, urging them to take necessary steps to return the caution money of the students by the education societies at earliest possible.
Shyamkant Patrikar, President of Grahak Panchayat, Vidarbha, Dr Kalpana Upadhyay, Organiser, and Liladhar Lohre, Secretary, said, the students studying in schools/colleges/universities have to deposit caution money for laboratory, library, sports etc but the managements never returned the money to students after completing their education, except minor number of cases, despite directives by the authorities concerned. As a result, this huge amount is being used by the managements as if it is their money, they added.
The memoranda drew attention towards announcement of the Minister for Higher & Technical Education about orders given to the colleges/universities for returning the caution money to students at earliest possible. It was revealed through an RTI query that two colleges from Mumbai, have Rs two crore each pending with them.
