A group of Senate members of Rashtrasant Tukadji Maharaj Nagpur University have formally lodged a complaint against the Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhai, with the Governor, who is also Chancellor of universities in Maharashtra.
The complaint pertains to following wrong policies while conducting affairs of the University. The main grudge of the Senate members was related to adjournment of the Senate meeting within two minutes on March 21, in presence of only the ex-officio members. The Senate meeting was adjourned on March 10, as the agenda was not completed. The adjourned meeting was to be held on March 11, but was postponed. Dr Chaudhari had stated that the adjourned meeting will be held after March 22. However, on the evening of March 19 notice of meeting scheduled for March 21, at 10 am, was posted to the Senate members. This meeting ended within two minutes.
The University has jurisdiction over four districts – Gondia, Bhandara, Wardha and Nagpur. The members reach the meeting venue using various modes of transport. They had demanded that the meeting should start at 11 am so that they can reach in time. The Senate members have alleged that the ex-officio members and University officers were informed to reach the venue earlier, which leads to suspicion about the intention of Dr Chaudhari, who finished the meeting before other members could arrive. Principal Satpute, a nominated member on the Senate moved the resolution to end the meeting stating that all important issues have been discussed. Dr Chaudhari followed suit.
The register for signature by the Senate members, which usually is kept inside the gate of the meeting hall, was also kept outside. This move also leads to suspicion of the intentions of Dr Chaudhari.
The irritated members then staged demonstrations against the VC. Dr Chaudhari assured that the meeting will be convened on April 5. However, it was not convened. The members who were prepared to lodge a complaint against the VC, deferred it following an assurance by Dr Chaudhari.
As the meeting was not held even on April 5, a detailed complaint has been lodged with the Chancellor on Tuesday.
