A massive yoga performance is being held on June 12 at Kasturchand Park here from 5.30 am onwards as part of celebrations of Inernational Yoga Day. Nagpur is one of the 75 iconic sites in the country selected for celebrations for being at the heart of it. Ayushya Mantralaya is celebrating the Day at these sites to mark Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsava. The for the Day this year is: ‘Yoga For Humanity’.
National Highway Authority of India, Nagpur, has taken initiative in organising and exending logistic support to the programme in collaboration with Janardan Swami Yogabhyasi Mandal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address virtually from Karnataka at 6.40 am and then the performance will begin from 7 am to 7.45 am. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Surface Transport, will inaugurate the programme while Rambhau Khandwe, President of the mandal, will guide the participants in yoga. Dr Vikas Mahatme, Krupal Tumane, both MPs, Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister for Nagpur district, Legislators, and govt authorities will be the guests of honour.
Schools, colleges, local-self bodies, police, yoga organisations, Nehru Yuva Kendra and others are participating in the programme in large numbers. The district administration has appealed to citizens that they should also take part in it in large numbers. The RTM Nagpur University will celebrate International Yoga Day in the running metro at 7.45 am. The programme has been organised in cooperation with Mazi Metro to mark Amrut Mahotsava, centenary celebrations in August month and excelling in yogasan competition in Khelo India. The event will start from Freedom Park, Zero Mile, in presence of Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Dr Sanjay Dudhe, Pro-VC, Dr Raju Hiwse, Registrar, Vijay Munishwar, recipient of Dronacharya Award, Brijesh Dixit, MD, Metro, DRSS Sunil Mathur, Mahesh Kumar, Project Director, Uday Borvankar, Executive Director, and Sudhakar Urade, General Manager. There will be yoga performance ‘on the wheel’ for 75 minutes. Dhanahsri Lekurwale, Gold Medal Winner in Asian Yoga Competition, will also be present as a student of the varsity. Sports students and persons from six years old to 60 years old would participate in the event. Yugbahadur Chhetri, Chief Instructor, Dr Sopandeo Pise University’s Gymanstic Training Centre, will be the Co-ordinator, informed Dr Sharad Suryavanshi.
