To attract the customers, all the wine shops in Nagpur district are currently displaying large attractive boards up to 30 by 30 feet in size.
According to guidelines, wine shops, beer bars and beer shop boards should not advertise alcohol and the state excise department is required to ensure that the boards should be of the respective sizes as per the rules.
There are no sign boards advertising alcohol at the moment, but large billboards are displayed outside the shops to attract customers. Wine shop operators have always violated the orders of the state excise department.
Earlier, Nagpur district superintendent Pramod Sonone had ordered a 60 by 90 inch board to be displayed on licensed wine shops. But the licensees did not take the order seriously. At that time no action was taken against any shopkeep er due to the size of the board.
Now the new superinten dent of Nagpur district Surendra Manpiya has issued an order in this regard on June 17. The order prohibits all licensees from erecting 60-by-90-inch boards and promoting any liquor company. It men tions banner, flax, sign board.
The functions of the concerned State Excise Department come under the district col lector. It is also the respon sibility of the district col lector to ensure that the order is complied with. There is also a timing for wine shop, beer bar, beer shop.
