A heinous incident from Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district of a 30-year-old tribal woman allegedly semi-stripped, flogged with a belt, and forced to parade around the village by carrying her husband on her shoulders wearing a garland of shoes has been reported.
The incident was reported on Sunday while the matter came to light on Monday after the video of the heinous act went viral on social media. The woman was tortured allegedly over an extra marital affair.
Meanwhile, police have arrested nine people, including her husband of Borpadav village in the district for assaulting, rioting, outraging the modesty of a woman, and criminal intimidation.
The video that went viral on social media showed the husband of the woman thrashing her brutally in front of villagers.
Later, the woman was semi-stripped and forced to carry her husband on her shoulders. The villagers were also seen offering her a garland of shoes and making her parade in the village with her husband on her shoulders.
Dewas additional superintendent of police Suryakant Sharma said that the victim woman went missing a week ago following which her husband had filed a missing complaint at Udainagar police station.
“Recently, he learned that the woman was hiding in a house of a man, who is stated to be a close friend of the woman. The husband of the woman reached the house of the man and dragged her out in front of the villagers and thrashed her brutally,†said ASP Sharma.
“The villagers garlanded the woman with shoes and later forced her to carry her husband on her shoulders. Four villagers helped the woman in carrying the husband and parade in the villageâ€, Sharma added.
Later, the woman’s friend lodged an FIR in connection with the assault at the local police station. The woman informed the police that she got married at the age of 15 years and her husband used to harass her because of which she ran away from her house.
