Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation seized 16,82,700 kg plastic materials from various shops and establishments and recovered a fine of Rs 10, 30,000/- from them during raids from July 1 till today.
The Ministry for Environment, Forests & Climate Change, has banned single use plastic from July 1. The NDS had taken out rallies in different zones to create public awareness about avoiding plastic materials. Even a deputation of shop and establishment owners had assured Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, NMC, that they would extend active cooperation to the corporation by avoiding single use plastic materials.
The squad members then intensified raids on the shops/establishments to check plastic materials. NDS charges fine of Rs 5,000/- to a shop during first action and then Rs 10,000/- in case the same shop found violating the rules.
