The ditches and stray animals on city roads are not uncommon for Nagpurians. Every year after the first heavy spell of rains expose the poor quality of road construction and repairs. An ill-prepared drainage system poses a serious threat to commuters.
The newly constructed road cannot be assumed to be free from potholes or ditches. The tar roads too are not laid properly. The loosely laid gravel their place out during the rainy season. Vehicles skid easily on these roads. Even the cement roads, which were claimed to last for at least 25 years, started showing cracks.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation claims that the ditches on roads are repaired immediately. The quality of repair work can be judged within a few days when a bigger portion caves in at the same place.
The work on laying cement roads, however, continues without paying attention to the problems faced earlier.
The stray animals can be seen right in the middle of the road or square. The civic authorities have failed to initiate action against the owners of these animals. The number of stray dogs also has increased in the city. During the night these animals pose serious problems for commuters.
