The war against the virus is not over. The fight against Corona virus and its variants has not ended and Monkeypox virus is spreading fast for the last three months. The World Health Organisation has confirmed another outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD). Two deaths from Ghana succumbed to MVD during treatment.
The WHO has warned of the spread of the newly detected virus and the situation may go out of control. Ghana Government has isolated about 100 persons, who came in contact with the deceased.
MVD is a virus of the Ebola family, the symptoms of which are similar to Ebola Virus Disease and has a very high fatality rate. The fatality rate is between 24 per cent and 88 per cent. The death rate changes depending on the strains and quality of case management. It is highly infectious and may cause haemorrhage and fever. It was previously detected in African countries including Angola, Congo, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda, WHO has stated.
