On the requisition from State Government, Army was deployed in Vidarbha region to support the evacuation and rescue of the villagers from flood affected areas.
The first rescue operation was taken in Mangaon village in Chandrapur district on Wednesday early morning. The village is completely cut off due to floods. Army rescue team is operating in conjunction with the civil authorities and disaster management teams. The team rescued 113 villagers to safer places.
Army team from GUARDS Regimental Centre (GRC), Kamptee, under command of Maj Bhuvan Shah with necessary equipment reached there last night.
One team is kept as stand-by at Kamptee Cantonment to respond in case of any further requirement, depending on flood situation. Brigadier Deepak Sharma, Commandant, GRC,, Visited the sites to oversee the operations carried out by Army.
Incessant and heavy rainfall in Vidarbha region during the past couple of day and release of water from dams resulted in flood like situation at different places as in Chandrapur. Team of NDRF and SDRF are also cooperating in the rescue operations.
