RTMNU centenary celebrations inaugurated
The Chancellor and Governor Bhagatsingh Koshyari and renowned scientist Dr Anil Kakodkar advised the university authorities to envision development of the nation and also restructuring the society. Derive inspiration from the past, work in the present and plan for the future, said the speakers.
Koshyari inaugurated the centenary year celebrations of Rashtrsant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on Thursday. Dr Anil Kakodkar, renowned scientist and Chancellor of Homi Bhabha Institute was the guest of honour. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari could not attend the event as he had to attend the ongoing session of the Parliament. Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Pro-VC D Sanjay Dudhe, and Registrar Dr Raju Hiwase were seated on the dais.
In his inaugural address Koshyari said that under National Education Policy indigenous values have been given more importance. Besides making progress in the field of formal education, social values are important. “We get inspiration from history. This inspiration should help us to work with dedication for nation building. While working for the present we also plan for the futureâ€, he said.
The University should strive to make it a Centre of Excellence, through dedicated work and keeping in mind the life values. This way the social disturbance existing in the society can be sorted out, Koshyari said and added that the principles of Sant Tukadoji Maharaj of cordial relations between the castes and religion should be achieved through the work.
Dr Kakodkar said that the role of the university should be to take the nation to the top of the world. He quoted examples of a few American universities, their efforts to groom entrepreneurs, and their contribution to their economy. This made the USA the largest economy in the world. The second major issue is removing the economic gap between the urban and the rural population. The university can adopt some villages and start working. Dr Kakodkar also spoke about instability which comes with the development. This instability can be sorted out with a change of mindset from materialistic gains to entrepreneurship and inculcating moral values.
The conscious efforts towards these three issues would automatically resolve other issues confronting Indian society, he added.
Video message of Gadkari was shown on the screen. A short documentary about the university was also screened.
Renowned industrialist and social worker Purushottam Agrawal was honourd with Jeevan Gaurav award.
Earlier Dr Subhash Chaudhari informed about activities of the university, while delivering the welcome address. A souvenir ‘Shatadeep Parva’ was released by Koshyari.
Dr Dudhe proposed a formal vote of thanks.
