The citizens should celebrate 10-day Ganesh festival by installing eco-friendly Ganesh idols on August 31 prepared from soil and avoid Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols with chemical colours that result in water pollution after immersion, appealed Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
It wanted that the citizens should celebrate the festival in eco-friendly manner with religious fervour and great enthusiasm. Describing ill-effects of PoP idols, the Solid Waste Management Department mentioned that such idols have more heat percentage that casts adverse effect on skin after coming in contact, coulours used are chemical and metal mixed that are harmful and colours after mixing in lake or river water pose threats to aqua life which ultimately proves dangerous to human beings through food-chain.
While purchasing Ganesh idols the citizens should ensure that they are made up from soil or Shadu soil, appealed NMC.
