As the Nagpur Municipal Corporation intends to divert large idols measuring approximately 10 feet to Koradi, the immersion of large Ganesh idols during Visarjan will take place in the artificial tank on the grounds of the Koradi temple.
On Saturday, an NMC team visited all three bodies of water—the Kolar River, the Kanhan River, and the artificial tank in Koradi—to assess their conditions. According to the accounts, the Koradi tank is 150 feet long and 60 feet broad.
The tank’s depth is sufficient for 10 foot idols. The civic body is aiming to set up the immersion of large idols in this tank in the meanwhile. In contrast, the authorities will prepare cranes for lifting idols at both the Kanhan and Kolar rivers for idols taller than 10 feet.
The district administration is emphasising on small idols of 4 ft in this festival season and also appealing mandals for the same. The civic body will erect eight artificial tanks at Empress Mill land near Vande Mataram garden for immersion of small idols of Mahal and nearby areas. Due to ongoing construction and renovation work in Gandhi Sagar, Sakkardara, Sonegaon and Futala lakes, the civic body has banned the immersion of idols in all four lakes. NMC also called a meeting of NGOs of the city for their support to achieve eco friendly Visarjan on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by Ram Joshi, Additional Commissioner and was conducted by Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Deputy Commissioner and Director, Solid waste Management. NMC will place 350 artificial tanks across the city for immersion of Ganesh idols of height upto 4 feet. Various NGOs will be present at various immersion sites to assist NMC in the task of eco-friendly Visarjan and Nirmalya collection.
