Senior citizens and persons with disabilities will get the facility of visiting religious places in Nagpur district free of cost by e-bus services, announced Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, here on Thursday.
He was speaking at a camp organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Ground (Kacchivisa), Lakadganj, to distribute equipment and aides to senior citizens and persons with disabilities Assembly constituency-wise under Centre’s scheme for empowerment of such persons and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojna. The guests distributed 35,000 materials to 4549 beneficiaries from East Nagpur.
Gadkari further said that three e-buses, including one double-decker bus, would be brought to Nagpur for providing free services. He pointed out that a bus service from Nagpur to Shegaon was operative for senior citizens. Now senior citizens and persons with disabilities could visit Nagpur to Adasa, Nagpur to Mahur, Nagpur to Dhapewada by e-buses, he added.
He said, a sanction has been received to the proposal for ‘Divyang Park’ in East Nagpur and the work of this part would begin in three months.
Dr Vipin Itankar, Collector and Municipal Commissioner/Administrator of NMC, said that the equipment and aids such as walking stick, hearing aid, elbow crutches, wheel-chair, spectacles, tri-cycle etc being distributed to the persons would definitely provide them benefit. Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Krishna Khopde, both Legislators, also expressed their views. Renuka Deshkar conducted the programme while Sengupa proposed a vote of thanks.
Dipak Kumar Meena, Ram Joshi, Additional Municipal Commissioners, Vijay Humne, Deputy Commissioner, and others were present.
