Following the High Court’s ban on PoP idols, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken action against those who sell them. This Wednesday. The NMC’s solid waste management department inspected 326 shops and fined 46 people a total of Rs 1.25 lakh for selling Pop idols.
Penal action was taken against those selling PoP idols on the orders of municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B. The responsibility for carrying out the drive was delegated to zonal staff and NDS teams.
Teams started inspect ing shops of idol sellers in various parts of the city from Wednesday. Information about shop keepers who sold PoP idols as that of clay is also being collected, NMC offi cials said.
The NMC plans to install 370 artificial tanks in different parts of the city for Ganesh immer sion. Also, 18 artificial tanks have been arranged for immersion of idols that are installed for 1.5 days.
