Nagpur is becoming a new route for the smuggling of gold from Dubai. Nagpur Police arrested three persons from the parking lot of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar informed the media on Wednesday.
The workers were used to avoid customs duty. A large number of labourers are taken to Dubai and Sharjah from across the nation. This includes workers from Nagaur district in Rajasthan. Those arrested are from the same place. The workers arrested are involved in Nagaur racket for gold smuggling.
The workers, while returning from Dubai or Sharjah bring huge bags of clothes and iron bars. They exchange bags at Nagpur Airport’s parking lot. They possess photographs of bags to be exchanged and the persons handling them. The clothes, mainly woolen blankets, are sprinkled with molten gold, Amitesh Kumar stated.
The CP also stated that incidents of detection of narcotic drugs in Nagpur have increased. A new intelligence cell is being established for preventing narcotic smuggling.
During the last seven years gold worth more than 4.96 crores have been seized in Nagpur. Besides gold illegally transported arms, liquor, and cigarettes, drones have also been seized in huge quantities.
Special attention is paid to persons coming from Dubai and Sharjah. They conceal gold inside their body, he stated.
