Devotees and volunteers of various Ganesh mandals have immersed as many as 1,40,537 idols of Ganesh in various 390 artificial tanks created by Nagpur Municipal Corporation for eco-friendly immersion from September 1 to 9.
The highest number of idols immersed in artificial tanks is from Dharampeth zone, where people made eco-friendly immersion at 26,982 places, followed by Nehru Nagar zone where the figure is 22,835. The zone-wise number of idols immersion is as follows: Laxmi Nagar zone – 15,975, Hanuman Nagar zone – 13,528, Dhantoli zone – 1,1142, Gandhibag zone – 14,274, Satranjipura zone – 12,902, Lakadganj zone – 122,688, Ashi Nagar zone – 2,198 and Mangalwari zone – 8,013. The workers and volunteers collected a total of 142.25 tons of pooja waste materials like petals, flowers, garlands etc.
Moreover, the number of immersion of POP idols at these places during the same period is 11,417 (8.12 per cent), clayidols – 1,29,120 (91.88 per cent). The immersion figure of Ganesh idols at Koradi artificial tank is not included in the report.
