- Two passengers concealed it in their rectum
Gold worth Rs 50 lakh was seized during the Customs clearance at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur on Thursday. Two passengers from Qatar flight no. QR 590 reaching here via Doha, have been detained in this connection.
The gold was in liquid form concealed in their rectum. The weight of the smuggled gold is stated to be 1357 grams.
Smuggling of gold is being detected at various airports across the nation. It has increased due to ensuing festival season in India. The market price of the gold is said to be around Rs 50 lakhs.
Recently Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had stated that Nagpur Airport is an important smuggling hub. Two workers involved in loading of goods, were held from the parking slot of Nagpur airport. A gang from Rajasthan is stated to be involved in the smuggling operations.
