The administration ss distributing equipment and aides to 40,000 senior citizens and persons with disabilities from Nagpur city and district.
The total cost of the materials is Rs 40 crore. Nagpur city is the first in the country to distribute equipment and aides to beneficiaries on such a large scale, which is a record in itself, said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, here on Saturday.
He was speaking at a function organised at Suresh Bhat Hall in Reshimbag to distribute the materials to beneficiaries from North Nagpur.
The materials are being distributed through Nagpur Municipal Corporation under the Assistance to Disabled Persons and Rashtriya Vayoshi schemes of the Central Government for making these people empowered.
Praveen Datke, Vikas Kumbhare, both Legislators, Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Dipak Kumar Meena, Addl Municipal Commissioner, and Dr Milind Mane, former legislator, were the guests of honour.
Gadkari further said, said that the government is distributing equipment and aides such as walking sticks, hearing aid, elbow crutches, wheel chairs, spectacles, tri-cycles etc to persons with disabilities and senior citizens as per the teachings of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj that service to weaker and disabled persons is service to Gode. The materials would provide much relief to these beneficiaries, he added.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has organised this concluding programme as it has provided these materials to beneficiaries from all the rest Assembly constituencies of the city.
Renuka Deshkar conducted the programme while Kapil Wase interpreted the speech in sign language for disabled persons.
