Esmayeel Shroff, a veteran director, dies at age 62. Govinda and Padmini Kolhapure pay respect.
Esmayeel Shroff, the prolific 80s and 90s director, has passed away. Following an illness, the seasoned Bollywood director passed away at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani hospital. Age-wise, he was 62. Esmayeel Shroff apparently had a heart attack and was admitted over a month ago. Esmayeel was an Andhra Pradesh native.
The late filmmaker has now received tributes from Govinda, Padmini Kolhapure, and Ashoke Pandit.
Ashoke Pandit expressed his condolences for the tragic passing “Esmayeel Shroff ji, an accomplished director, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 82. had directed a number of successful films, such as Ahista Ahista, Bulandi, Thodi Si Bewafai, and Surya. It’s a significant blow for the movie business. My sincere condolences go out to his family. Om Shanti, please.”

Esmayeel Shroff’s first film, Love 86, was directed by Govinda, who expressed his sorrow over his passing. He said to ETimes, “I’m quite upset. His movie was the catalyst for my career. Jannat naseeb karaye Uparwala (may God place his soul in heaven). May he rest in peace, his soul. He used to have faith in me in addition to giving me tasks. He was the first person to ever tell me that Govinda knew how to make movies. He was a major factor in my transformation into Govinda from Govind.

On the personal front, Esmayeel Shroff graduated in Sound Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. He later went to Mumbai to pursue his interest in films. He worked as Assistant Director to Bheem Singh and later directed his first film Thodisi Bewafaii.
