A mother gave her five-year-old kid her cellphone to play online games, and a cyber thief posing as a customer service representative stole Rs 78,000 from her two bank accounts. The victim, Mona Vijay Mudarle (30), a resident of Plot No. 510, Madhav Nagari, Isasani, reported to the police that her five-year-old kid was using her smartphone to play games at around 1.10 pm on November 3.
After some time, she saw him speaking to a person who contacted from cell number9339027576. She then took the phone from her son and spoke to the caller. Posing as a customer care executive of a cellular company, the caller told her that her son had downloaded AnyDesk App and asked her to send the link.
After telling the caller that no customer care executive asks to forward such links, she disconnected the call. After sometime, she received two messages on her phone that Rs 70,000 and Rs 8,000 were debited from her accounts of HDFC Bank and State Bank of India respectively.
Following the victim’s complaint, MIDC Police registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66(d) of Information Technology Act and started investigation.
