Renowned sprinter P T Usha has been elected president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOC). She was elected unopposed as no other filed nomination against her. The last date of filing nominations was November 27.
Usha has been nominated on the Rajya Sabha. She won three silver medals in the 1982 Asiad in Delhi; missed the Bronze medal by a fraction of a second in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. From 1983 to 1989 she won 13 Gold medals in ATF meet; three silver medals in Asiad in China and in 1998 a gold in Relay Race, one silver and two bronze in Asian Championship in Athletics.
