The poaching case of a full-grown tiger in Pench Tiger Reserve on November 29, 2022, seems to be related to the superstitious attitudes of the locals and the poachers.
They feel that the body parts of the tiger can bring good luck to them while they play satta or matka (gambling).
Authorities have so far arrested four persons and all four have been sent on Forest Custody Remand (FCR) till Dec 3, 2022, by Saoner Court.
First, the forest officials arrested three persons, Ashok Fago Karade, Rushi Sahare, and Nitesh Shankar on Tuesday. The fourth person Parasram Goma Dhurve from Amla in Chhindwara district was nabbed on Wednesday.
Poachers had used an insecticide on the kill (deer) by the tiger. The tiger died after eating the insecticide on the deer.
The accused took the carcass afterward to Surewani Lake and removed the paws. All four paws have been recovered and a piece of tiger skin has also been seized including the weapons used to chop off the body parts.
