Ten special dog vans have been ordered by the NMC in order to prevent the dog menace in the city. The new vans will be allotted in the NMC veterinary hospitals and will be working towards dog catching and sterilization programs.
With the addition of these 10 vans, the NMC, in total will have 12 vans which will be available to all zonal offices, out of which two older vans will be demolished as they are not in usable conditions anymore.
The new mint-conditioned vans will be having heat resistance sheets on the floor, ample ventilation, and fans. In consideration of complaints regarding stray dog menace and a rise in the number of stray dog biting, the new vans will catch and sterilize the dogs on complaints of the citizens.
After the dogs are caught, NMC with the help of animal welfare volunteers will sterilize the dogs.
Along with this initiative by the NMC, they will come up with two cattle catcher trolleys mounted on vehicles. At present, NMC has only one cattle catcher tractor trolley and one hydraulic ambulance. These vehicles will cost Rs 37 lakh.
