Nationalist Congress Party leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was released on Wednesday. Deshmukh was in jail since November 1, 2021.
The court rejected the appeal of CBI on Tuesday for extending the magisterial custody and Deshmukh was released from the Arthur Road prison on Wednesday. Deshmukh is facing charges of extortion of Rs 100 crore from liquor bars and shops in Mumbai. Earlier he got bail in a case of money laundering initiated by the Enforcement Directorate.
Leader of Opposition and NCP leader Ajit Pawar and other party leaders reached Mumbai to welcome Deshmukh.
