The Lokayukt Bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, without any discussion.
The Opposition members had staged a walkout in connection with alleged land scam involving minister Abdul Sattar.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had already announced that the bill will be tabled during the winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur. The bill was tabled in the House. However, the Opposition had already staged a walkout targeting Sattar. The Opposition has been demanding the removal of Sattar from the ministry and initiating a high-level enquiry into charges against him.
While tabling the bill Fadnavis spoke about the Government’s views on the issue and thanked the members to support it.
Renowned social worker Anna Hajare had staged a hunger strike for the Lokayukta Bill. After the bill was cleared by the Centre, the states were expected to have their own laws. Fadnavis stated that he and his colleague Girish Mahajan held a discussion with Hajare and the bill was drafted.
