In a shocking incident of human trafficking, a 3-month-old boy was sold to a couple from outside the state at Ahmedabad railway station. Later, Nagpur railway police rescued the baby boy who was to be sold to a couple living in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
The child was rescued from Navjivan Express when Nagpur police noticed suspicious movement of a man, later identified as Chandrakant Patel from Malad, and a woman named Draupadi Meshram from Nagpur, and arrested them. Interrogation revealed that a man named Krunal had given the child to the two at Ahmedabad station. The child was sold to a couple from Vijayawada. A zero number complaint was then transferred to Kalupur police station.
ACP Hirendra Chaudhary told Mirror that the Nagpur railway police had come to the city to hand over the accused. “An offence has been registered against the two and the investigation has been transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the (AHTU) of the city police.”
Chaudhary said that the two accused were given Rs 5,000 for bringing the boy to the couple in Vijayawada. “Nagpur railway police recovered Rs 3,000 in cash from them and a railway ticket,” he said.
Police said AHTU will track down Krunal who gave the boy to the two accused, now that the investigations have been transferred to it. Police suspect that Krunal could be involved in more such incidents of human trafficking.
