Actress Rakul Preet Singh, whose upcoming movie Chhatriwali is getting ready for release, claimed that her character in the movie defies all odds, customs, norms, and social barriers on her own. The Tejas Deoskar-directed movie also features Rajesh Tailang, Riva Arora, Satish Kaushik, Dolly Ahluwalia, and Sumeet Vyas.
On January 6, the Chhatriwali trailer was unveiled. Rakul plays a dedicated sex education teacher in the movie who goes to great lengths to dispel societal taboos concerning the topic. The trailer also implies that Rakul’s character is working to educate people about the value of contraceptives and safe sex. Her husband, played by Sumeet Vyas, does not support the use of condoms. He says, “Raincoat pehenke baarish mein bheegne ka kya mazaa,” in the trailer.
In a statement about the movie, Rakul said, “I hope this character inspires others to find their voice and speak out against unsafe sex and the numerous health consequences of not using protection. I’m happy that Chhatriwali is providing progressive and enjoyable entertainment for everyone, especially the youth who make up the majority of the population in India and who need to be educated on safe sex and sex education.
The awkward silence surrounding sex between Indian parents and children, husbands and wives, teachers and students is broken by Chatriwali, according to co-star Sumeet. Because there is always a sense of “hush-hush” surrounding such topics, today’s generation is curious about the words “sex” and “intimacy.” The movie Chhatriwali is scheduled to air on ZEE5 on January 20, 2023.
