Reliance Jio is close to achieving its goal of rolling out a 5G network across the majority of Indian cities by 2023. In just three months since launching its standalone 5G network in October 2022, the telco has covered more than 80 cities across India and will continue to expand. Jio recently announced the availability of its 5G services in ten Indian cities, including Agra, Kanpur, Nellore, Ahmednagar, and others.
The telecom company run by Mukesh Ambani has announced that it will offer 5G services in additional cities in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Maharashtra. The new network connectivity, known as Jio True 5G, is now operational in Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, Tirupati, Nellore, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Nagpur, and Ahmednagar. With this, the telco also declared that it would be the first and only operator to introduce 5G in most Indian cities.

Jio 5G: How to Use It
Despite being at the forefront of 5G deployment, Jio has yet to make the technology available for commercial use. This implies that not every user who resides in a Jio 5G enabled city will be able to connect to 5G. Instead, Jio users in these cities will get a Jio 5G invitation—the Jio Welcome Offer—that will allow them to connect and enjoy Unlimited Data at up to 1 Gbps speeds without paying anything extra.
Jio Welcome offer
If their mobile has an active recharge plan (prepaid or postpaid) for Rs 239 or higher, Jio users who receive the Welcome Offer will be able to enjoy unlimited internet consumption at no additional cost.
Check for Welcome Offers on My jio App. If the device is prepared to connect to Jio 5G, Jio will also send an SMS and a WhatsApp message.
Jio 5G plan
Jio has not yet introduced a specific 5G plan, but it has listed a data add-on pack that allows users to continue using the 10 times faster 5G network. The 6GB data plan, which costs Rs 61, has a validity period that is only as long as the current plan.
Notably, Jio customers who already have a plan that costs less than Rs 239 can get a 5G plan for Rs 61. To access Jio True 5G, you can use the Rs 61 voucher with the Rs 119, Rs 149, Rs 179, Rs 199, and Rs 209 prepaid plans.
How to connect to Jio 5G
Make sure the smartphone is 5G capable because Jio 5G can only be used on 5G smartphones. Check if the device have the most recent system update with 5G support, or wait until mobile manufacturer releases it, as Jio is also collaborating with OEMs to bring Jio 5G support.
Significantly, in order to connect to the new network, the phone’s settings must be changed if received both the 5G welcome offer and the 5G update for the 5G smartphone. To do that, open the Settings menu, select Network Settings, and then select 5G.
