The Nagpur Municipal Corporation lacks the funds or the time to address the fundamental issues as it spends crores beautifying the city for the G-20 meeting.
In order to prevent the canal bridge between Bhawani Nagar and Durga Nagar from collapsing, the NMC has closed the road in east Nagpur. The neighbourhood has long demanded that the bridge be restored, but to no success.
Bhawani Nagar and Durga Nagar were connected by a bridge over the canal. Numerous residents and students from Gangabgh, Durga Nagar, Om Nagar, and Bholeshwar Nagar crossed this bridge. A few months ago, the bridge started to show cracks. The locals urged that the bridge be rebuilt. However, three months ago, the authorities stopped traffic on the bridge by setting up pillars in the middle.
The bridge was given a temporary makeover, but the residents received no benefit from it. But the bridge’s cracks got bigger. The bridge’s railings on either side are likewise damaged. The NMC entirely shut down the bridge a week ago to prevent any mishaps.
